The sun is shining, skin is bronzing, strawberries are ripe and the clotted cream is consumed faster than my thighs can yell cellulite! Wimbledon is in full swing and London is alive.
I absolutely love this time of year. Wimbledon is quintessentially English and locals and tourists get right into the spirit of it. The public tennis courts are packed from 6am onawards and every cafe is streaming the Wimbledon live. With so many travellers orchestrating their holidays so they are in London for the tennis is can get crazily busy. Especially in SW London on the district line (which is exactly where I live). Every cafe and shop is packed with people and it is hard to catch a break. You always need to add 20-30mins to your commute to get out of the hustle and bustle.
I went to the tennis last week. No, not centre court, but ground access which was exciting enough! I was planning the day for my friend and I so decided to do a little research into a great breakfast spot to make sure we got a satisfying meal in before the match. I did some looking around and decided to go off the beaten track a little bit before heading in. Anywhere on the district line/Wimbledon was going to be packed so why don’t take advantage of that and find a little nook in London to explore?
I decided on the PARLOUR in Kensal Rise. Kensal Rise is just an overground away from Fulham so not far away at all (25mins) and allowed us to escape the crowds.
I’d heard about this place from a friend who mentioned their portion sizes were mind blowing! So I thought it would be the perfect place before we hit the courts.
They are open all day with a menu to satisfy most (mixture of sweet and savoury options – always a plus!).
The serve my absolute all time favorite coffee – Allpress and have a wine and cocktail list for dayzzz.
And the coffee was perfect – baristas sure know what they are doing. Definitely a bonus to kick start the day.
Here I have the Beet Juice and Smashed Avocado on Toasted Lazy Bread and Soft boiled eggs (Lazy bread is a delicious sourdough/brioche type bread = amazing!).
I will definitely be back with my laptop too. They have a great outdoor garden which is like a hidden oasis – a little part of London to escape too and get some work done. The staff are very very relaxed and friendly, so I wouldn’t feel like I would need to give the table back after 45mins.
Here you can see the ‘The (No-Subs) Full Parlour Breakfast’. There was definitely no complaining about portion size here!
So give it a go. A friend of mine went yesterday and thanked me for it… You will too 😉
Just a note – PARLOUR is closed on Mondays…
